Hospitality Lawyers with the latest information from Meet the Money® 2009

For all of our industry friends — whether or not you were able to attend Meet the Money® 2009 — we will present some of the invaluable information delivered at the conference. We will present both the “raw data” of the PowerPoint presentations, and will also have some commentary in the next few days.

Hotel Lawyer with questions, and perhaps some guidance, on how we make this all work. Today, the Fed announced that for the first time in 50 years, the US economy has experienced deflation. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Labor Department reported that the March consumer-price index slipped 0.4% below its year-earlier level — the first decline in more than 50 years.

Hospitality Attorney’s top insights to hotel industry. As we approach the half-way mark in 2008, the hospitality lawyers in JMBM’s Global Hospitality Group® thought it would be interesting to determine our readers’ “top picks” of all the articles we have posted this year. Hospitality Lawyer on innovations in the conceptualization and design of hotels. Meet the Money® — the annual hotel conference presented by JMBM’s hospitality attorneys and their Global Hospitality Group — recently concluded its 18th annual hotel finance convocation. About 400 industry leaders gathered in Las Vegas to hear from hotel industry experts what is happening in our industry, and what is going to happen.

There were great presentations on recent industry data (Smith Travel Research and PKF Consulting), likely scenarios and sentiment for our near future (CBRE and LIIC), an analysis of major hotel transactions (HVS) and trends in hotel cap rates and values (Mellen), and much more as reported earlier here on www.HotelLawBlog.com). But in terms of the future, one of the most interesting presentations was the Hotel of Tomorrow or H.O.T. presented by Ron Swidler, President of Bon Aller, LLC (rswidler@bonaller.com or (612) 284-4747).

And like consumer confidence surveys, or other measures of sentiment within an industry, these gems are more important as indications of what may drive decisions in the coming months than as actual predictions of future outcomes . . . although we often become what we think.
